Ever wondered how to tell the difference between Stucco and EIFS? Or how to guarantee a water problem doesn’t become a mold problem? What should you do about that mold in the bathroom?
With my training as a home inspector and my background in the water, mold and fire insurance restoration business, I can answer these questions. This card explains the basics of how to tell the difference between real stucco and EIFS / synthetic stucco. Real stucco is made of cement, while synthetic stucco typically has a polystyrene foam board covered with a thin layer of a elasticized coating. Some synthetic stucco has had problems in the past, typically due to poor installation. Know what you’re dealing with when showing a home by keeping this card in your glove box for easy reference.
